The 94th Anniversary Romeo Peach Festival is Thursday, Aug. 28 through Labor Day, Sept. 1, 2025.
A Legacy of Harvest, Community, and Partnership
The Romeo Peach Festival isn’t just an event—it’s a tradition steeped in history, resilience, and community spirit, just like People Driven Credit Union (PDCU). The festival and the credit union have grown together, deeply rooted in Romeo, Michigan’s heritage and values.
Peach Trees, Roadside Stands, and Community Growth
Our story begins in the early 1800s when settler Michael Bowerman brought peach pits from New York and planted the first peach trees in Macomb County. His efforts laid the foundation for a peach-growing industry that still thrives today, kept alive through local landmarks like Westview Orchards. By the early 1900s, Romeo blossomed into a peach orchard hub, producing hundreds of thousands of bushels annually. This remarkable abundance led to establishing the Romeo Peach Festival in 1931—a celebration honoring the area’s agricultural roots.
The festival is more than an event; it symbolizes unity and perseverance, pausing only briefly during World War II and again during the recent pandemic. Today, it serves as a reminder of Romeo’s deep agricultural heritage, with peach farming remaining a proud tradition in the area.
PDCU: A Partnership Rooted in Community
Parallel to the festival’s growth is the story of People Driven Credit Union, initially founded in 1958 as MPG Credit Union by employees of the Ford Proving Ground. The credit union expanded in 2001 to serve the broader community, opening a branch in Romeo at 33 Mile and Van Dyke, where it became MPG Community Credit Union, strengthening its ties to the residents and businesses of Romeo.
In 2008, a merger with Automotive Federal Credit Union led to another evolution, transforming MPG into Community Driven Credit Union. Then in 2014, a final merger with Peoples Trust Credit Union resulted in the name we know today—People Driven Credit Union. In 2018, our Romeo branch moved to its current location in downtown Romeo, right at the heart of the community we’re proud to serve.
As new businesses flourish and the community continues to evolve, People Driven Credit Union remains dedicated to supporting Romeo’s growth. From farms to festivals, and through each chapter of Romeo’s story, PDCU stands as a committed partner to its members and their dreams.
