Celebrating Juneteenth: Honoring Freedom and Community Progress

Honoring Juneteenth at People Driven Credit Union

At People Driven Credit Union, we recognize Juneteenth as a meaningful day of reflection, celebration, and progress. In honor of this important occasion, our branches will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and serves as a powerful reminder of the continued pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice for all.

While our branches will be closed, members can still access their accounts through my.peopledrivencu.org or by using the MyPDCU mobile app for transfers, mobile check deposits, bill payments, and more.

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth marks the day—June 19, 1865—when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Recognized as a federal holiday since 2021, Juneteenth is both a celebration of freedom and a call to reflect on the continued work toward racial and social justice.

Juneteenth Celebration Ideas

There are many meaningful ways to celebrate Juneteenth:

    • Support Black-owned businesses in your community.
    • Host or attend a cookout, a traditional way to gather and celebrate with family and friends.
    • Read books or watch documentaries that explore African American history and culture.
    • Volunteer with local organizations promoting equity and education.
    • Join Juneteenth community events such as festivals, parades, or educational programs in your area.

These activities not only commemorate the past but also invest in a better future for all.

A Day of Reflection and Action

At PDCU, we use this time to reflect on our values of inclusion, community, and service. We recognize that financial empowerment is a critical part of social progress, and we remain committed to helping all members achieve their goals with dignity and opportunity.
