How a Jumbo CD works

A Jumbo CD is a certificate of deposit designed for larger balances. You deposit at least $25,000 and select an available term. Your money earns a fixed rate until the certificate reaches its maturity date.

  1. Choose a term from six months to five years.
  2. Open the certificate with at least $25,000.
  3. Earn a fixed rate, with dividends paid quarterly.
  4. Choose what to do with the funds when the certificate matures.

Early withdrawals may result in a penalty and may reduce earnings.

What happens when a Jumbo CD matures?

When your Jumbo Certificate of Deposit reaches the end of its term, you can:

  • Withdraw the funds
  • Transfer the funds to another account
  • Renew the funds into an available certificate option

The rate available when your certificate renews may differ from the rate earned during the previous term. Contact PDCU before maturity if you want help reviewing your options.

Is a Jumbo CD right for you?

A Jumbo Certificate of Deposit may be a good fit when you have at least $25,000 that you do not expect to need during the certificate term.

  • You want a fixed rate and predictable earnings.
  • You are saving for a planned future expense.
  • You want to keep part of your savings separate from everyday spending.
  • You want to avoid the price fluctuations of market-based investments.
  • You are building a CD ladder with certificates that mature at different times.

If you may need regular access to your money, consider comparing a Jumbo Certificate of Deposit with a High-Yield Money Market Account before deciding.
