Money Masters Scholarships Awarded for 2024

Money Masters Scholarships Awarded for 2024

People Driven Credit Union is proud to announce that nine Michigan students received scholarships through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis Money Masters Scholarship Program for 2024. PDCU sponsored these scholarships in partnership with the Rhonda Walker Foundation in Detroit, helping break down financial literacy barriers for college-bound students across Southeast Michigan.

About the Money Masters Scholarship Program

The Money Masters Scholarship Program was launched in 2023 by FHLBank Indianapolis to promote financial literacy and best practices in money management among college-bound students and rising high school seniors. In 2024 the program awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to more than 70 students across Indiana and Michigan through partnerships between FHLBank Indianapolis, member institutions, and community organizations.

2024 Scholarship Partners and Recipients

Four partnerships drove the 2024 scholarship awards across both states:

People Driven Credit Union and Rhonda Walker Foundation, Detroit, MI: Nine scholarships awarded.

Mercantile Bank of Indiana and Grand Valley State University TRIO Program, Grand Rapids, MI: 22 scholarships awarded.

Elements Credit Union and Center for Leadership Development, Indianapolis, IN: 25 scholarships awarded.

Merchants Bank and Providence Cristo Rey High School, Indianapolis, IN: 15 scholarships awarded.

Why Financial Literacy Matters

Marchelle Costa, AVP and Associate Director of HR Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at FHLBank Indianapolis, spoke directly to the purpose behind the program. “Core to our mission is supporting homeownership for as many people as possible in our district. We assessed the barriers that prevent people from achieving that, and one of them is financial literacy,” Costa said.

Deron Streitenberger, EVP and Chief Business Operations Officer at FHLBank Indianapolis, emphasized the value of the collaborative model. “Our Money Masters program is an innovative way to get more engaged in financial literacy and the communities the Bank serves. These are the same communities our members serve, so it’s a win-win for everyone,” Streitenberger noted.

What Comes Next

More than 400 students received financial education through the program in 2024. FHLBank Indianapolis is already planning to expand its reach. “We’re just getting started,” Costa said. “We’re hoping our members will sign up and continue to support the program. And that we can double those numbers in 2025.”

People Driven Credit Union is committed to being part of that growth. Supporting the financial education of the next generation is one of the most meaningful ways a credit union can invest in its community.
